Nesil Caliskan MP, the Labour Member of Parliament for Barking, has praised the government’s 6.7% increase to the National Living Wage. “This Labour government was elected on a promise to make work pay, and with this week’s inflation-busting boost to the National Living Wage, we are delivering on that promise,” she said.
5.7% of workers in Barking & Dagenham – around 3,700 – are paid the National Living and Minimum Wages. Announced in the budget today, the hourly rate NLW rate of £11.44 will increase to £12.21 next April.
Nesil Caliskan MP added: “The lowest paid workers in Barking will benefit from a £1,368 pay rise, increasing the pound in their pocket and benefiting our local economy. That’s the difference a Labour government makes.”
